Luxury Products that are not Worth the Hype

I hope that I am not the only beauty junkie that have bought so many products that have been recommended by so many people about how amazing they are and only to discover that they are just a 'meh' product, like, they are good but nothing to write home about, ya know?!

tarte Amazonian Clay Full Cover Airbrush Powder Foundation & Brush | £34
I lusted after this foundation so hard when EssieButton raved and raved about it nonstop. I was like "omg, I need this because Essie said she loves it and she has dry skin like me". Lo and behold, I went out of my way to find them and the brush that was sold separately in Sephora Singapore and paid hella a lot of money for them (we couldn't get them in the UK back then), only to find out that it's a bit shit... I mean I still use it sometimes because I don't like to waste but dear lord, it doesn't do anything she claimed. It doesn't look particularly natural, it clings to my dry patches and it doesn't cover anything. Essie, I'm still bitter about this purchase...

Illamasqua Illuminating Hydra Veil | £32
Again, I wanted to love this so much because my favourite YouTuber 'Pearypie' recommended it but for me I don't really see much of a difference whether I wear primer on my face or not. The primer itself is really cool because it has a gel consistency and comes in a cool tub with a little spoon. However, it doesn't wow me and I don't really feel like it's a product I can't live without but I don't hate it. I just feel meh about it, ya know?

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat | £25
I know this is a cult favourite for many people but I don't know...maybe I just don't get it. It's definitely not a concealer despite many people believing it is but it is a pretty decent highlighter. It's nice and the packaging is gorgeous but so not worth the price tag.

Lancome Le Crayon Khol | £17
These pencils just come with all my Lancome Mascara gift set that I just buy every Christmas and I have tried using them so many times but it just doesn't work for me. I find that my eyes are way too watery/oily for them. They never lasts on me and they smudge like there's no tomorrow. It usually moves from my eyes to my cheekbones in about 2 hours. If anyone wants my spare ones, let me know.

OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener - Original Formula  | £19.50
I had a very high hope for this nail treatment because a few years ago, literally everyone were raving about it but I just couldn't bare to part with £19.50 for a small bottle of nail stuff. Anyway, I have been suffering from nail splitting on my right index finger (you know when the top layer of the nail of decided that it has had enough?). As a disclaimer, I did not pay for this product because I work for a beauty retailer and sometimes I get to test out products because I send a lot of products out to bloggers and I like to make sure that they are good. However, this thing doesn't work for me. I have tried it for several weeks...if anything my other nails are starting to split too. Sooooo not worth it.

Do you have a luxury product that you feel very meh about? Let me know!

  1. I'm sorry about these 'meh' products that suppose to be 'good'
I've learned that you cannot 100% rely on product reviews by
Youtubers because they get paid/sponsored to review products.

    1. I completely agree with you. My job is literally to send products to bloggers to try and sometimes I send them products I haven't tried before to see what they think about them but now I can pretty much tell who will tell the truth and who will just say everything is amazing because it's free haha.

  2. Oh this is so good to hear! I see/hear so many good things about certain (really pricy) products in vlogs on youtube, and on those beautyblogs that accompany them (you know, Estee, Zoe, etc.). And I'm always doubting whether or not it's ACTUALLY worth my money - or they're really just paid to say those things.

But still, there are honest reviews too. And then there's the fact that we all have different skin etc. And sometimes you just got to make the leap and splurge and try and feel stupid and get over it and make a really nice post like this to prevent other people from making a similar choice.

    Thanks!!

  3. I love it when other people agree with me that luxury products aren't all that, the drugstore is good enough for me...

    1. Luxury products are all about the packaging! Drugstore are almost always just as good!

  4. Ahahha! I love how you write about these, I haven't tried enough high end products to come up with my 'shit list'. Sorry to hear about that tarte powder, everything in singapore's sephora is extremely pricey and marked up and even I haven't bought much to try from popular brands like too faced and tarte. I've tried lancome khol pencils but I liked them when I was younger, how creamy and black they are but when I got older I realized gel pencils stay so much better and don't transfer to lenses!

    1. It's heart breaking when high end products doesn't work. I feel bad about posting bad things about good brands in case they won't sponsor me in the future but I can't lie to say that something is amazing when it's not. I haven't tried anything from Too Faced either but hopefully I will get around to it.

I started wearing lenses a few months ago and it's almost impossible to wear khol pencils now :(

  5. OPI's Nail Envy did absolutely nothing for me either! I kept using it and hoping it would work but you're right that it was such a 'meh' product, I feel like that's the perfect way to describe it. My bottle of Nail Envy also got gluggy really quickly...
